Join us as we visit 3 innovative sites on the Georgia Tech Campus…all in one tour!

First Stop: The Montgomery Machining Mall (MMM) of the Mechanical Engineering Department
The Montgomery Machining Mall provides the Schools of ME, ECE, and the College of Sciences with research and curriculum support through:

  • Fabrication of prototype mechanical equipment for research
  • Safety and operational training on equipment
  • Assisting in the design/fabrication of research and academic projects
  • Space and tools for students to learn and explore fabrication techniques

Second Stop: Invention Studio
The Invention Studio is the largest student run makerspace in the United States. Prototyping Instructors are students from all majors and backgrounds who volunteer to repair the equipment, organize events, and teach any visitors who utilize the space.

Third Stop: Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Facility (AMPF)
The Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Facility (AMPF) is a 20,000 square foot reconfigurable research and development high bay manufacturing facility supporting industrial, academic, and government stakeholders that also serves as a teaching laboratory. As a flagship component of the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI), AMPF is where industry works alongside researchers and students to take early-stage concepts from idea to reality. The goals of AMPF are to:

  • Support scale-up and translation of basic research into implementable technologies,
  • Provide a demonstration facility for academia, industry and government partners to co-develop and integrate new materials, processes, and digital models to de-risk new technologies, and
  • Enable training and upskilling of a competitive, skilled workforce on next-generation advanced manufacturing technologies.

 


Tour #2 Delta TechOps

Delta TechOps (DTO) is the largest airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider in North America. In addition to supplying maintenance and engineering support for Delta Air Lines’ large fleet of aircraft, Delta TechOps provides high-quality service to more than 150 other aviation and airline customers around the world. The tour would include industrial, hangar, and aircraft environments. This will require all participants to wear protective gear such as bump caps and eye protection. The tour will include a quick overview of how Tech Ops play a crucial role in performing aircraft maintenance and returning them to operational service utilizing a spectrum of departments to include: routing, planning, project management office, engineering, maintenance departments, and support back shops.
