Track Topics Description
1 — Nuclear Plant Operation & Maintenance, Engineering and Modification, Operation Life Extension (OLE), and Life Cycle Operations & Maintenance and Engineering Modifications, Life extension, Life Cycle and Balance of Plant Optimization This track will focus on the topics related to optimizing and improving plant operations, maintenance, modifications and upgrades, ageing and materials' degradation management, performance evaluations, risk and outage/work window planning and management, heat exchangers/condensers operating experience and maintenance strategies, maintenance and inspection of rotating equipment. In addition we are seeking papers for two topical sessions:
  1. Operating experience. Data collection, databases and lessons learn, and
  2. Steam Generator Management Programs
    2 — Nuclear Fuel and Material, Reactor Physics and Transport Theory and Fuel Cycle Technology Advanced Fuel Materials

    This track will cover topics related to recent developments in nuclear fuel, fuel cycle, reactor physics, neutronics and transport theory.
    3 — I&C, Digital Control, and Influence of Human Factors Instrumentation and Control (I&C)

    This track will focus on I&C for next generation plants, integrated control rooms, hybrid control rooms, I&C refurbishment, analog component supply issues, digital instruments, remote operation, wireless communication, human-machine interface
    4 — SMRs, Advanced Reactors and Fusion Advanced Reactor Technologies

    This track will focus on the expected safety and performance features of future builds (SMR, GEN III, III+, IV and fusion technologies) and of the technical, scientific, economic, and environmental details of the many different designs and concepts for innovative power that can be accomplished from nuclear reactions.
    5 — Nuclear Safety, Security, and Cyber Security Nuclear reactor safety and security, cyber security for current and advanced reactors This track will focus on safety and security topics, safety culture, plant security, safety and security of digital I&C systems, cyber-attacks and security
    6 — Nuclear Codes, Standards, Licensing, & Regulatory Issues Codes and standards for nuclear systems and components, regulatory issues and licensing and life extension This track will focus on globalization of codes and standards, risk-informed codes & standards and their applications (ISI/IST), PRA standards, design & QA issues, standards and certification of software, licensing of non-power and research reactors, environmental qualifications
    7 — Thermal-Hydraulics and Safety Analysis Experimental methods, Single and multiphase heat transfer, Best estimate codes, reactor accident analysis This track will focus on small and large-scale thermal-hydraulic experiments, laboratory and industrial measuring methods, system and component thermal-hydraulic codes development, separate thermal-hydraulic effects, coupling to system codes, best estimate plus uncertainty analysis, as well as safety analyses and TH application discussions.
    8 — Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Applications CFD for single and multi-phase systems, Numerical methods, CFD and thermal-hydraulic codes coupling This track will focus on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multidimensional single and multiphase systems, CFD and thermal-hydraulic codes coupling
    9 — Decontamination & Decommissioning, Radiation Protection, & Waste Management Decontamination & Dismantling Techniques, Remediation (disposal policies, etc.), Waste Treatment, Waste Management Storage & Disposal (safety of storage, package performance, monitoring technologies, etc.), Radiation Protection This track will cover topics related to decontamination & decommissioning, radiation protection, monitoring and external sensing technologies, shielding and waste management, improvements in waste treatment, packaging, storing and reduction, recycling, and reuse of all forms of low, intermediate, and high level waste, environmental sustainability
    10 — Advanced Methods of Manufacturing for Nuclear Reactors and Components Advanced methods of manufacturing reactor components, additive manufacturing, digital printing This track will focus on advanced manufacturing methods including additive manufacturing and digital printing, 3-D printing.
    11 — Severe Accidents and Mitigation Strategies for Beyond Design Basis Events Design Basis Accident (DBA), Beyond DBA, sever accident and Mitigation The track addresses the topics of Beyond Design Basis Accidents (BDBAs), including severe accident, the evaluation of accident progress, the analysis by using computer codes, experimental study, PSA study for BDBAs, severe accident preventive and mitigative measures, severe accident management, the emergency response in NPPs, the insight from Fukushima accident, etc.
    12 — Risk Assessments and Management Risk Management, PRA, Fire Protection, Operation and Maintenance, risk informed regulation This track will focus on Probabilistic Risk (Safety) Assessment (PRA/PSA), use of risk measure in the design of new plants and operation and maintenance of existing, and development and use of risk informed rules and regulation.
    13 — Computer Code Verification and Validation Reactor system code verification and validation exercises The track addresses the topics on computer code verification, validation and benchmarking.
    14 — Nuclear Education and Public Acceptance Regulations

    This track focuses on many topics including the training and education of students and personnel, government programs supporting deployment, safety, the economics of nuclear power, sustainability, construction and project management techniques, and the importance of international cooperation and collaboration as well as the importance of public communication and acceptance.
    15 — Student Paper Competition Student papers in all areas of nuclear engineering The purpose of this track is to encourage the active participation of students in ICONE 28 by submitting high quality technical papers on the various aspects of nuclear engineering. Students participating in this track will be expected to make a technical paper oral and poster presentations, chair and aid sessions
