Suzanne McKillop

ASME Section III Expert | Advanced Reactor Component Design Leader | Strategic Codes and Standards Strategist

Suzanne McKillop is a recognized expert on ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code modernization for next-generation nuclear technologies. As MPR Associates’ Market Segment Lead for New Nuclear Technology Developers, she has knowledge of numerous reactor designs, allowing her to innovate across multiple disciplinary initiatives. Her 15+ years of experience span conceptual design development, detailed design by analysis, and risk-based modernization of construction strategies for small modular reactors (SMRs) and non-light water reactors.

An industry leader in ASME Code analyses, Ms. McKillop holds multiple leadership roles critical to advanced reactor deployment:

  • Chair of Section III Subcommittee on Design
  • Member of BPV III Committee on Construction of Nuclear Facility Components
  • Appendix XXIII Certifying Engineer for Design Specifications and Design Reports

She co-authored the groundbreaking EPRI report Alternate Requirements for Construction of ASME Section III Division 5 Components Commensurate with their Contribution to Safety and Risk which defines the basis for cost-effective nuclear construction rules for items with minimal contribution to safety or risk.

Mrs. McKillop's technical leadership extends to:

  • Development of Reliability and Integrity Management Program (RIM) elements to mitigate potential in-service degradation
  • Advancement of construction rules for compact heat exchangers operating at elevated temperatures
  • Strategies to evaluate the effects of primary coolant on fatigue (environmentally assisted fatigue, corrosion fatigue)

She holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a B.S. from NC State. An advocate for nuclear workforce development, she mentors through U.S. Women in Nuclear and ASME’s Women in Standards and Certification.
