Dr. Tribikram Kundu is a Professor of engineering at the University of Arizona. His major research area is structural health monitoring and nondestructive testing using ultrasonic and electromagnetic waves. He has published 9 books, 18 book chapters and 354 technical papers - 180 of those in peer reviewed scientific journals with close to 8000 citations according to Google Scholar. He also edited 24 conference proceedings. His research contributions have been recognized by the Humboldt foundation of Germany through their Humboldt Research Prize (Senior Scientist Award) in 2003 and Humboldt Fellowship award in 1989 and 1996. He also received 2012 NDE Life Time Achievement Award from SPIE (the International Society for Optics and Photonics), 2015 Research Award for Sustained Excellence from ASNT (the American Society for Nondestructive Testing), 2017 Founders Award from ASME’s Nondestructive evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics Division (NDPD), 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award and 2008 Person of the Year Award from the Structural Health Monitoring Journal, Satish Dhawan Chair Professorship from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and a number of Invited Professorships from France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Poland, Singapore, China and Japan.

He is Fellow of five professional societies - ASME, ASCE, SPIE, ASNT and ASA and the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the ASME Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics of Engineering Systems (JNDE). He has served as Associate Editor of a number of other journals like Ultrasonics, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, ASME Journal of Pressure Vessels Technology and Structural Health Monitoring – An International Journal. He served as the Chair (2018 and 2019) and Co-Chair (2016 and 2017) of the SPIE symposium on Smart Structures and NDE. He started and served as the Chair of the SPIE conference on Health Monitoring of Structural and Biological Systems from 2001 to 2018.


Henrique Reis

Professor Henrique Reis obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975 and 1978, respectively. He is a Full Professor in the Departments of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering and of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he directs the Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation Research Laboratory. Professor Reis is a Fellow of the British Institute of Nondestructive Testing (BINDT), a Fellow of the Acoustic Emission Working Group (AEWG), and a Fellow of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT). He is a member of the Society for Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). He has served as Chair of the ASNT Research Council, and Chair of the ASNT University Programs Committee. He has served as a member of the ASNT Board of Directors, a member of the ASNT Executive Committee, and as Chair of the ANST Research Council Awards Committee. Currently, he serves in the ASNT Awards Committee and as a member of the ASNT Research Council Annual Symposium Organizing Committee. He has organized several conferences and symposia. Since 2010 he has also been a member of the Organizing Committee of the SPIE Smart Structures and Materials--Nondestructive Evaluation and Health Monitoring Conference. Currently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the ASME Diagnosis and Prognosis Division, and serves as the chair of the Division Honors and Awards Committee. Professor Reis has several awards; recently, Professor Reis was bestowed the 2015 ASME Founders Award by the ASME Diagnosis and Prognosis Division, and the 2016 ASNT Research Council Award for Sustainable Excellence. This year, he was honored with the ASNT 2020 Lester/Mehl Honor Lecture Award.

He is also an Affiliate Professor and a Lecturer at the Department of Aero/Astronautics in University of Washington, Seattle. He received his B.S. from University of Michigan in 1994, and Ph.D. in Aeronautics/Astronautics from Stanford in 2003. He was appointed as a research associate at Stanford from 2003 to 2005. JB has over 20 year R&D experience in the field of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), in-situ NDE and smart structures, and active sensing materials for current and future aerospace vehicles. Since he joined Boeing in 2005, he has been leading numerous projects in maturing SHM technologies into civil, military, and space applications with results published into multiple book chapters, over 30 US patents, numerous conference and journal papers. He serves as an executive committee member of the international Aerospace Industry Steering Committee (AISC) for standardizing SHM technologies. He is an Associate Editor of International Journal of Structural Health Monitoring.
