Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Muhlheim is a member of the Modern Nuclear I&C group in the Advanced Reactor Engineering and Development section at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

He is currently working on developing a risk-informed digital twin that evaluates control options given component failures and poor component health. The DT autonomously and automatically adjusts the probabilistic models based on actual plant conditions and equipment status, recalculates the metric of interest, and transmits the results to its deterministic performance-based assessment of the probabilistically identified alternatives to validate the probabilistic assessment.

Dr. Muhlheim has also identified the regulatory implications of DT technologies and their uses including current regulatory guidance relevant to the application of predictive maintenance DTs, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation.
