Advanced Reactor Engineering & Development
Nuclear Energy & Fuel Cycle Division
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)

Dr. Prashant Jain is the interim Section Head for the Advanced Reactor Engineering and Development Section within the Nuclear Energy & Fuel Cycle Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He holds a Ph.D. (2010) and an MS (2006) in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, as well as a BTech (2004) in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. With a robust R&D background spanning over 20 years, Prashant specializes in advanced multi-physics modeling, nuclear thermal design and safety analyses, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), single- and two-phase turbulent flows and heat transfer, analytical benchmarks, lattice Boltzmann method, and parallel scientific software development. In his current role at ORNL, Prashant is responsible for leading eight research groups, each dedicated to distinct areas such as Advanced Reactor Systems, Thermal Hydraulics, Modern Nuclear Instrumentation and Controls, Energy Systems Development, Nuclear Operations and Licensing, Risk Methods and Analysis, Nuclear Structures and Construction, and Systems Analysis and Optimization. Prashant has been recognized for his significant contributions to the field, receiving the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Mark Mills Award for his doctoral research on lattice Boltzmann methods. Additionally, he was honored with UT-Battelle's 2019 Mission Support Award for his pivotal role in the HFIR event causal analysis.
