Richard Howard is a Senior R&D staff engineer and Leader of the Irradiation Engineering Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He's worked in the national laboratory complex for 12 years, and has recently rejoined ORNL in 2022. His work supports the life extension of nuclear reactors, creates isotopes for industrial and medical uses, and enables advanced nuclear materials research. To date Dr. Howard has authored or co-authored over 70 refereed journal articles, technical reports, and conference papers. He received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University, a master's degree in Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee.
