As Curio Legacy Ventures' Chief Program Officer, Mr. Johnson coordinates the R&D efforts of industry and several of the U.S. national laboratories in demonstrating the state-of-the-art separations technologies under development by Curio in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-e). With over 35 years of technical and managerial experience in government and private industry, including leading every major element of the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy, Mr. Johnson works closely with the U.S. government, industry, and academia to advance the state-of-the-art in nuclear energy technologies and to maintain the U.S. as a world leader in nuclear science and technology. Among his many career accomplishments, Mr. Johnson worked closely with U.S. industry and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to develop the comprehensive technical basis for extending the operating lifetime of U.S. commercial reactors from 40 years to 60 years and beyond; established and led a $1.2 billion private/public partnership resulting in the first licenses issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission under 10 CFR Part 52 which positioned the private sector to embark on the first commercial plant construction projects in over 30 years; and led the development of world-class, high performance, multi-scale, multi-physics computer codes which are now being used by U.S. industry and the NRC for licensing advanced nuclear technologies.
