This is the thirteenth year of the Outreach for Engineers Forum. Highlights of the Forum will include presentations of the various technologies required (e.g. from ocean and/or offshore engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical/structural engineering and project management), types of job opportunities, possible career paths and a team building activity. As each year is different a site tour or job fair may be included.

In addition, Outreach for Engineers Specialty Forum delegates will be provided with the opportunity to participate at the 38th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering as full conference delegates. This conference will showcase over 850 technical papers from engineers and scientists from around the world, with 13 Symposia representing the range of technologies.

Through funding provided by the OOAE Division of ASME and corporate sponsors, the organizers of the Outreach to Engineers Specialty Forum will be offering scholarships to cover registration costs and a limited number of travel subsidies. The scholarships are open to students and early professionals from around the world.

Students and early professionals will need to apply for scholarship funds and to attend the forum. The application deadline is Monday, March 4, 2019.

Graduate Students (both Masters and Doctoral levels) with specialization in fields such as ocean and/or offshore engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, and aerospace engineering.

When And Where Is It?

The Outreach Specialty Forum will be held during the OMAE 2019 conference. The conference takes place in Glasgow, Scotland.

Outreach specific activities take place Saturday, 8 June – Thursday, 13 June. Outreach events are scheduled to avoid interference with conference attendance. The Outreach for Engineers program is a specialty forum designed for students who may not be familiar with the industry as well as those who have already specialized in this area. The Outreach forum takes place each year during the OMAE conference.

The typical Outreach attendee is a graduate student and co-author of OMAE paper.

Outreach activities consist of a Team Building activity and Welcome Reception on the Saturday before the forum, Speaker program on Sunday and a wrap-up Breakfast on Thursday. Outreach attendees are encouraged to attend the entire conference. In an effort to facilitate quality student attendance, students must apply to the program and be reviewed by the organizing committee. 30+ students are granted funding to pay for the Outreach specialty forum and the OMAE conference. A smaller amount of students are granted a travel subsidy. The OOAE Division of ASME is the main supporter of the program. Your Sponsorship would allow us to increase the number of participants in this program, and enrich their experience, by sponsoring attendance to the annual banquet and/or technical tour.
