ASME-EPRI-AWS-JWES Performance of Welds in the Energy Sector: Workshop on Weld Repairs

This ASME-EPRI workshop continues a long-standing effort initiated in 2016 to bring the technical community together and discuss key topics like creep-fatigue, dissimilar metal welds, hydrogen-materials interactions, and others. Over the next several years, relevant and current themes of importance to the energy industry will be addressed including weld repair in 2027 and additive manufacturing in 2028. This is the second workshop in this series with the first one in 2026 focused on weld failures.

To complement the conference, the workshop will be hosted in parallel with the regular ASME PVP Technical Committees sessions (MF, OAC, CS, DA, etc.). Over the course of 1½ days (Wednesday, July 28 and Thursday, July 29), the single-track workshop will include ~20 invited lectures detailing the research outcomes, service experience, and emerging challenges in half-day sessions specific to the thermal and nuclear power generation and petrochemical industries. Presentation topics may include fitness for service assessment, weld procedure qualification, non-destructive evaluation, and best practices for repair welding of components operating in both the time-independent and time-dependent regimes, as well as case studies relevant to vessels, pipelines, piping systems, and other pressure retaining components. Time will be allocated for questions from the attendees, and at the end of each session a devoted discussion session may be coordinated to allow for extended interaction with the audience.

Individuals or organizations interested in contributing a case study can reach out to Mike Gagliano, Darren Barborak, or Jorge Penso.
