The ASME Fluids Engineering Division (FED) Graduate Student Scholar Committee (GSSC) constitutes one of the recognition and honor arms of the Division. Every year, the Committee announces the FED Graduate Scholarship Program and receives many applications from growing pools of applicants. The award certificate recognizes each student's technical accomplishments in the field of fluids engineering and provides a scholarship bestowed to the scholarship winners, allowing them to actively participate in the upcoming FEDSM to present their papers. The students are further assigned to one of the six FED Technical Committees (TCs) for one year to benefit from the young professional program that the FED has created for the graduate student scholars and young engineers, including professional mentorship, help with preparing their award winning papers for submission to ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering (JFE), engagement in a variety of responsibilities within the FED such as reviewer roles, chairing sessions, and organizing symposia, and student ambassador duties to be carried out at their home institution. Scholars that successfully complete their GSS assignment are invited to participate in the next conference as a Graduate Returning Scholar (GRS).
One GSSC topic is associated with each FED Technical Committee (TC) including:
- Topic x-x: Fluid Applications and Systems Technical Committee (FASTC)
- Topic x-x: Fluid Measurement and Instrumentation Technical Committee (FMITC)
- Topic x-x: Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee (FMTC)
- Topic x-x: Multiphase Flow Technical Committee (MFTC)
- Topic x-x: Computational Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee (CFDTC)
- Topic x-x: Micro- and Nano-Scale Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee (MNFDTC)
To compete to be selected as an FED2024 GSS please submit your paper to the GSS topic associated with the technical track that covers the content of your paper. After your abstract is approved you will submit your technical paper with the scholar applicant as the first author. All papers submitted to this topic area will be reviewed and one will be selected as the graduate student scholar for the technical committee. All papers accepted in this topic area will be placed in the appropriate topic area of this track for presentation at FEDSM2024.
