ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 140,000 members in 151 countries.

For more than 100 years, ASME has successfully enhanced performance and safety worldwide through its renowned codes and standards, conformity assessment programs, training courses, and journals.

ASME also produces nearly 40 international conferences. These industry-leading events feature advanced research and technical content spanning a range of industries impacted by mechanical engineering, including energy production, energy sources, advanced manufacturing, and engineering sciences. EWF is an industrial association, founded in 1992, that manages the International Systems for Training, Qualification and Certification of both personnel and companies in two main areas Joining and Additive Manufacturing.

EWF and its member organizations have developed international harmonised system for education, training and qualification in the field of joining technologies and additive manufacturing. It was a pioneer organization developing the first harmonized system embracing all the European countries for the qualification of personnel for a wide range of levels both in welding, related technologies and inspection. With the expertise of the welding system, EWF has created the first AM international harmonised system. EWF licensed its Qualification System to IIW in 2000 and since then a combined EWF/IIW System had been offered in 45 countries worldwide. The importance of these systems is recognised by ISO and CEN, being EWF a recognized stakeholder of ISO and CEN.

EWF has also been involved in the preparation, participation, and management of ERASMUS+ and RTD (Research & Technical Development) projects, which allow us to keep actively researching innovative ways to improve our training and qualifications as well as a close observation of the market, keeping the system updated and answering real industrial needs.
