Albert Ratner, University of Iowa

Professor Albert Ratner has been on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Iowa since 2003. Professor Ratner’s education consisted of a BS from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), MS and PhD degrees from the University of Michigan, and a post-doctoral position back at Caltech. His research spans a range of technical areas from laser diagnostics and combustion instability, to biomass gasification and utilization, to development of novel liquid fuels and additives, and work in biomedical fluid mechanics and multi-phase flows. Professor Ratner has also served the scientific community in a host of leadership positions including as Topic Editor for both Energies and Processes, Board Member for the executive committee for the Central States Section of the Combustion Institute, Member of the ASME IMECE Steering Committee, Technical Program Chair for 2021 US National Combustion Meeting, and Technical Vice Chair for the 2022 IMECE. Professor Ratner is a Fellow of ASME.
