Let's Talk Hydrogen – The Technical Transition
Tuesday Afternoon (15:30-17:00)
Companies are looking toward creating a new hydrogen future – so let’s talk about the technical transition. It is great minds from the pipeline industry that will enable this transition, from performing the research, implementing findings, updating codes and standards, developing new engineering specifications to actual implementation into engineered ‘hard’ products – the pipe, the welds, the steel, the plastics. So what are we really doing to establish appropriate technical boundaries? Are we proceeding the way we would like to or are there different strategies we should employ?

Panelists:

  • Patrick Bain, Manager of Hydrogen Projects at ATCO, Natural Gas
  • Jeff Whitworth, Emerging Fuels Program for Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI)
  • Sam McDermott, Technical Manager of Renewable Hydrogen at Enbridge
  • Vincent Holohan, Senior Engineer with United States Department of Transportation (DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)

Moderator: Tran Mah-Paulson, Senior Specialist, Quality Services with Pembina Pipeline Corporation

Thursday Morning (10:30-12:00)
The industry and environment that we operate in is constantly changing and the way we collaborate needs to change with it. Join pipeline industry leaders for a discussion on how collaboration is key to driving innovation, gaining social license, and engaging a workforce of diverse talent. This panel will examine the opportunities and challenges in how industry, government and other stakeholders are working together to ensure a sustainable and stable source of energy now and into the future.

Panelists:

  • Kurt Baraniecki, Director of Pipeline Integrity, Enbridge Gas Transmission
  • Genevieve Carr, Professional Leader, Environment, Canada Energy Regulator (CER)
  • Shahani Kariyawasam, Director of Innovation and Decision Optimization, TC Energy, and Vice-chair of the PRCI executive board

Moderator: Danielle Demers, Lead Auditor and Professional Engineer, Danielle Demers Consulting

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) – The Second Wave
Thursday Afternoon (15:30-17:00)
With Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) reviving itself as a viable option to achieve net-zero objectives for corporations and countries, this panel will aim to uncover what's different in this next wave of CCS potential. Will there be enough impetus this time around to get some of these megaprojects through to completion and keep them operating economically for decades to come?

Panelists:

Moderator: Erin Bobicki, Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering - Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, University of Alberta
