Dr. Hiroyuki Sato

Dr. Hiroyuki Sato is Deputy Director at HTGR Project Management Office in Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). In this role, he serves as a technical lead of high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) project in JAEA. Joining JAEA in 2006, he has 18 years of experience in system design and safety assessment for HTGR. His research area also includes a nuclear-renewable integrated energy system including a nuclear gas turbine cogeneration system design and electric grid simulations of a nuclear hybrid energy system. He stayed in Idaho National Laboratory (INL) as a government visitor of US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Program from 2008 to 2009. From 2016 to 2023, he has been a Japanese representative of the Generation-IV International Forum (GIF) Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) system steering committee. During the assignment, he served as co-chair of the committee from 2021 to 2023. He holds the degree of Doctor of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
