Virtual Conference: November 1 – 5, 2021
Alice White is Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Boston University, a department with 50 faculty members. This is one of only 3 departments in the BU College of Engineering, which is uniquely structured to encourage convergent research. In addition to her role in Mechanical Engineering, she is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, a Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and a Professor of Physics.
Dr. White joined the College of Engineering in 2013 after a 30-year career at Bell Labs, where she rose to the rank of Chief Scientist. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the IEEE Photonics Society, and the Optical Society of America. In 2014, she established the Multiscale Laser Lithography Lab at BU and invested in a nanoscale 3D printing capability to develop mechanical metamaterials for biological studies. This research is one thrust of the BU-led NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC), Cellular Metamaterials (CELL-MET), of which she is a co-PI.
