Student Advisory Committee (SAC)

The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is a group of students who work to foster student engagement in the IGTI community and improve the Turbo Expo conference every year. Towards this goal, the SAC organizes various sessions and events during the conference, provides opportunities for students to work behind the scenes with leaders in their technical area, and awards travel funds to eligible degree seeking individuals.

Meet the 2022-2023 Student Advisory Committee (SAC) Leadership Team!

Dimitra-Eirini Diamantidou

Dimitra-Eirini Diamantidou, Chair
Dimitra is a Doctoral Student at Mälardalen University (MDU) in Sweden. She holds a 5-year Mechanical Engineering Diploma from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece with a specialization in Aeronautics and Engines. She is active in the areas of propulsion systems integration, gas turbine performance modeling and simulation, electrified propulsion, and aerodynamics. Her current research focuses on the conceptual design and optimization of hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion systems and specifically on the boundary layer ingestion concept. Her involvement with the ASME Turbo Expo started in 2020 where she served as a student liaison for the Turbomachinery Committee. In 2021, she received the SAC Travel Award to attend the ASME Turbo Expo 2021 and she was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Student Advisory Committee (SAC). She is currently serving as the Chair of the Student Advisory Committee for ASME Turbo Expo 2023.

Mohammed Ibrahim Kittur

Mohammed Ibrahim Kittur, Vice-Chair
Mohammed Ibrahim Kittur is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Center of Advanced Materials, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds a first-class-distinction Master of Technology in Machine Design in 2015 from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India. His doctoral research focuses on experimental and computational non-linear continuum mechanics of elastomeric materials applied in bearing seals and dynamics in gas turbines. His doctoral research findings are published in high-impact journals such as Polymer Testing and Journal of Polymer Degradation and Stability. Mohammed Ibrahim Kittur has secured various scholarships and awards including four SAC Travel Awards by ASME IGTI, 2015, Montreal, Canada, and during his Ph.D. 2020 (Virtual), 2021 (Virtual), 2022, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In the recently concluded ASME Turbo Expo 2022, He has been elected as Vice-Chair of the IGTI Student Advisory Committee (SAC) for the upcoming ASME Turbo Expo 2023.

Dimitrios Bermperis

Dimitrios Bermperis, Secretary
Dimitrios Bermperis is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Energy Engineering at Mälardalen University (MDU) in Västerås, Sweden. He holds a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed a Master Thesis in collaboration with Mälardalen University on the topic of modelling and assessment of electrical power systems for hybrid-electric turbofan aircraft. His current research focuses on hybrid-electric and hydrogen-fired propulsion system configurations for regional aircraft. The work is directed towards the conceptual design, and performance of such powertrain architectures and its thermal management system. Along with these, integration with the turbine engine and aircraft, and system-level performance, feasibility, and optimization studies are being carried out as a part of his work.

Mavroudis D. Kavvalos

Mavroudis D. Kavvalos (Past Chair)
Born in Greece, Mavroudis is research-oriented mechanical engineer, holding a first-class honors MSc in Gas Turbine Technology from Cranfield University in 2018, UK and a Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2017. Mavroudis is active in the areas of modelling and simulation, electrified propulsion, gas turbine performance, turbomachinery design, open-rotor aero-dynamics and probabilistic analysis.

Mavroudis' doctoral research focuses on aero-engine conceptual design under uncertainty for innovative aircraft architectures, including advanced fan/compressor transient performance modelling. His work lies within the purview of two EU-funded collaborative research projects; namely Turbo Electric Aircraft Design Environment (TRADE) and Hybrid Electric Small Commuter Aircraft Conceptual Design (HECARRUS), where he oversees the propulsion system architecture and whole systems integration.

He has been involved in several propulsion-related projects: among others, propeller-airframe interaction aerodynamics, rotorcraft performance and gas turbine diagnostics. Mavroudis serves also as a teaching assistant for the gas turbine and turbomachinery design course within the Energy and Environmental Engineering postgraduate scheme at Mälardalen University since 2018.

Mavroudis is currently serving as the Past-Chair of the IGTI Student Advisory Committee (SAC), while he had been elected as Chair and Vice-Chair for the ASME Turbo Expo 2022 and 2021, respectively. He is a recipient of five student scholarships, including two SAC travel awards by ASME IGTI in 2019 and 2020. He serves as reviewer and member of the Aircraft Engines and Cycle Innovations IGTI Committees since 2018.
