Executive Leadership Panel
The Executive Leadership Panel (EPL) is one of the sought after and highlights of the IPC event and 2020 will be no different. The EPL started in 2014 with a concept of having senior executives from our industry talk about current affairs. Over the next IPC’s that followed, discussions have taken place about technology, innovation and collaboration with many a leader discussing what keeps them awake at night or equally important what gets them out of bed in the morning.
2020 will continue to build upon past discussions with a theme around managing perception. This year, Chris Yoxall, an Executive Vice President from The ROSEN Group will moderate a discussion which will have a panel including Stan Chapman, Daniel Diermeier and Maria van der Hoeven around managing perception relating this back to our industry and leadership on a whole.
Chris Yoxall
Chris Yoxall is an Executive Vice President of the ROSEN Group and is presently based in Houston, Texas. He has over 25 years of experience in asset integrity management including legal, technical and contractual management; primarily in the Oil and Gas Industry. Over this period, Chris has worked throughout Africa, Australasia, Asia, China and North America. He remains involved globally, actively participating in various Standards and Committees, including Research and Development. He spends part of his time lecturing to industry and is a passionate advocate in the leadership development of future industry professionals.
He studied both mechanical and metallurgical engineering and is recognized with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management. Chris is as an executive of the Australian Pipeline & Gas Association Research & Standards Committee, as well being on the Board of Directors at The Energy Pipelines CRC and YPP USA respectively.
Stanley G. Chapman, III
Stanley G. Chapman, III was appointed Chairman of the General Partner for TC PipeLines GP, Inc., effective January 1, 2019. In addition, Mr. Chapman serves as Executive Vice-President and President of U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines for TC Energy Corporation since April 2017 where he is responsible for all pipeline operations and commercial activities across TC Energy’s FERC-regulated transmission and storage assets, as well as its unregulated midstream business.
Prior to that he served as TC Energy’s Senior Vice-President and General Manager of its FERCregulated U.S. natural gas pipeline business. Before joining TC Energy in July 2016 as part of the Columbia Pipeline Group (CPG) acquisition, Mr. Chapman served as Columbia’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. Previous to joining CPG in December 2011, Mr. Chapman held various positions of increasing responsibility with El Paso Corp and Tenneco Energy and was responsible for various marketing and commercial operations, as well as supply, regulatory, business development and optimization activities.
Mr. Chapman is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, a current member and past executive committee member of the Society of Gas Lighters, and a member of the International Association for Energy Economics. Mr. Chapman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Texas A&M University as well as a Master of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Finance from the University of St. Thomas.
Ms Maria van der Hoeven
Ms Maria van der Hoeven is a Dutch professional with broad political and managerial expertise. She started her professional career as a teacher. Later on she became director of a Vocational Training Centre for Adults and director of Technology Centre Limburg.
In these jobs she demonstrated great competence in managing change and transition.
Her political career started in 1974 when she was elected as member of the City Council of Maastricht, her home town.
In 1991 she became Member of Parliament. In this capacity she fulfilled several functions within her caucus. She was vice-president of the House of Parliament for several years.
From July 2002 to February 2007 Ms van der Hoeven served as Minister of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands and from February 2007 to October 2010 as Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy. In both capacities she demonstrated leadership at national, regional and EU level.
Ms van der Hoeven took over as Executive Director of the IEA on 1 September 2011 and has led the Agency during a period of exceptional change in the global energy economy, as rapidly shifting supply/demand balances for oil and other major fuels transform the IEA traditional mandate. Her mandate ended on 31 August 2015.
Ms van der Hoeven responded by enhancing IEA engagement with key non-member countries including Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. Under her leadership, the IEA admitted its 29th member, Estonia, and increased its co-operation with OPEC and the International Energy Forum (IEF) as well as signed a partnership accord with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), APEC and other multi-lateral institutions.
Ms. Van der Hoeven has repeatedly emphasised the close link between climate and energy policy. A member of the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate led by former President Felipe Calderón of Mexico, she has initiated discussions between policy makers and industry representatives on the impact of climate change on energy security, and sought to raise awareness among young people around the world of the problem of climate change and the need to get informed and take action. She has also promoted renewables and energy efficiency as part of the critical role she believes innovation and technology play in contributing to energy security while supporting climate goals.
These and her other initiatives reflect her overall focus on energy security in all forms, for all people. That includes the hundreds of millions around the world who lack access to modern energy services, and in recognition of her efforts in this area, she was invited to serve on the Advisory Board for the UN Sustainable Energy for All initiative and to be a member of the international jury of the UN DESA grant.
Since September 2015 Ms van der Hoeven is member of the Board of Trustees of Rocky Mountain Institute in Colorado (US) and senior fellow at Clingendael International Energy Program (CIEP)
Since 2016; Ms van der Hoeven is Member of the Supervisory Board of INNOGY SE (Germany) and Non-executive director of TOTAL SA (France).
Ms van der Hoeven is a recognised speaker on energy issues at international fora and symposia.
Daniel Diermeier, Vanderbilt University
Daniel Diermeier is the 9th Chancellor of Vanderbilt University. Until recently he served as Provost of the University of Chicago and before that as Dean of its Harris School of Public Policy. He is currently a member of the board of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Board of Governors for Argonne National Laboratory. Previously, he served on the Boards of the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Field Museum, and the Board of Trustees of NORC.
Daniel Diermeier is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). His teaching and research focuses on formal political theory, political institutions, the interaction of business and politics, test analytics, public perception, as well and crisis and reputation management. He has published four books and over 100 research articles in academic journals, mostly in the fields of political science, economics and management, but also in other areas ranging from linguistics, sociology and psychology to computer science and applied mathematics.
Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Professor Diermeier taught at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, most recently as IBM Professor of Regulation and Practice in the Department of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences (MEDS), and Director of the Ford Motor Company Center of Global Citizenship. He also held appointments in Economics, Political Science, Linguistics, and the School of Law at Northwestern University.
During his time at Northwestern, he won 13 teaching awards including the 2001 Kellogg Lavengood Professor of the Year Award and the 2013 Kellogg Alumni Professor of the Year Award. He was named among the World’s 50 Best Business School Professors and was the 2007 recipient of the Faculty Pioneer Award from the Aspen Institute named the “Oscar of Business Schools” by the Financial Times. Professor Diermeier has been an advisor to the world’s leading companies. Clients include Accenture, BP, McDonald’s, Shell, E&Y, and the FBI among many others. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of CityBase, an urban technology company, until its acquisition by GTK, and serves as an advisor to Method Capital.
