The ASME and SB3C community maintains a long-term goal of enhancing our culture and all-embracing presence within biomechanics and bioengineering research. As such, we are offering this Culture and Community Travel Award to assist undergraduate and graduate students to attend the 2025 Summer Bioengineering Conference (formerly SB3C). This award will provide financial assistance as well as personal mentoring opportunities for each awardee. To maximize this impact, we are especially seeking applicants that have not attended this meeting (formerly SB3C) previously and likely would not be able to attend without this award.
Award Details
- Free in-person registration to SBC 2025
- Be paired with a personal mentor at the meeting
- Receive a ticket to attend the Workforce Development Workshop Event at SBC 2025
Eligibility Criteria
Required:
- Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in a STEM field from a culturally-enhancing population
- Never attended this meeting (formerly SB3C) previously in-person
- Committed to attending SBC 2025 in-person if receiving this award
Preferred:
- Have an accepted abstract to SBC 2025
- Would be unable to attend SBC without the support of this Award
How to Apply
Applications should be submitted no later than April 18, 2025. To apply please complete and submit the form linked below.
The application form includes the following three major components:
- Statement of Interest (max 500 words) which describes each of the following:
- Your interest in pursuing research and a career in biomechanics and bioengineering
- How attending SBC will help you reach your academic and professional goals
- Any obstacles you have faced to date that has limited your accessibility to research opportunities
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)/Resume (2 pages max) including list of undergraduate STEM courses taken (to be taken) through the Spring 2025 semester
- Letter of support from institution (can be from your department chair or research advisor) justifying why this award is necessary for you to attend SBC and committing to any additional financial support necessary for you to attend.
