2nd James V. Beck Memorial Symposium

Inverse Problems, Parameter Estimation, and Heat Conduction

ASME Summer Heat Transfer Conference (SHTC)
Hyatt Regency Bellevue, WA, USA., July 26–29, 2026

Held once every three years, the James V. Beck Memorial Symposium provides a distinguished forum for researchers to share ideas, recent achievements, and emerging developments in inverse problems, parameter estimation, and heat conduction. This symposium is organized by the K20 (Computational Heat Transfer( Technical Committee and honors the legacy of Professor James V. Beck (1930-2022), a pioneer in inverse methods and parameter estimation, and a leading contributor to the field of heat transfer.

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Novel Methods for Solving Inverse Heat Transfer Problems
  • Applications of Inverse Heat Transfer Problems (Energy, Biomedical, etc.)
  • Parameter Estimation (thermal properties, geometry, etc.)
  • Conduction heat transfer topics (e.g., new solutions, solution evaluation, etc.)
  • Machine Learning and Other Emerging Approaches
  • Experimental Design & Data Assimilation

Journal Special Issue: Selected papers will be considered for review and publication in a Special Issue of the ASME Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer.

Best Paper Award: The authors of the best paper will be recognized for their outstanding work during SHTC 2026 Awards Luncheon.
