Biographies
Li Qiao
Professor, Associate Head for Engagement & Recognition
Purdue University
Dr. Li Qiao, a Professor at Purdue University's School of Aeronautics & Astronautics with a courtesy appointment in Mechanical Engineering, earned her undergraduate and master's degrees in Engineering Mechanics at Tsinghua University in 1999 and 2001, respectively. She completed her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2007. Dr. Qiao's research is at the forefront of technological advancements and fundamental understanding in the areas of fuels, combustion, propulsion, and sustainable energy. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of subjects, including alternative fuels, hydrogen and ammonia, pre-chamber jet ignition, high-pressure reacting flows, small scale combustion engines for drones and unmanned vehicles. Her accolades include the 2022 AIAA High Speed Air Breathing Propulsion Best Paper Award, NSF CAREER Award (2013), AFOSR Young Investigator Award (2013), and ARO Young Investigator Award (2010). She serves on the Combustion Institute's Board of Directors and is an Associate Editor of the AIAA Journal.
Tom Howell
Segment Leader for Conventional Powertrain

Tom Howell is the Segment Leader for Conventional Powertrain at AVL in North America. He is responsible for strategy and project delivery for AVL’s North American business related to internal combustion engines, transmissions and hybrids in all market sectors.
During his 7 years at AVL, he has led projects ranging from technology proof of concept to production engine development. Prior to AVL, Tom was Director, New Technology at Jacobs Vehicle systems for 5 years and with Ricardo for 15 years in UK and USA with positions of increasing responsibility. Tom holds a Bachelors and Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London, UK.
Brent Keppy
Manager of Powertrain Systems Engineering
Bosch North America
Brent Keppy is the Manager of Powertrain Systems Engineering for Bosch North America. He supports US customers in combustion related advanced engineering activities as well as is engaged in government funded projects focusing on advanced engine technologies. Brent has been involved with diesel engine fuel injection and combustion development since 1994. He joined Bosch in 2001, and has worked on numerous projects, on and off-highway, with engines between 2 and 15L in size. From 2003 through 2006 he worked as a combustion engineer at the German headquarters. He returned in 2006 where he applied the combustion knowledge to new emission regulations in passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors. Since 2010 he has been managing the powertrain group and leads all combustion development related activities in FH Michigan. Brent graduated from Iowa State University in 1994.
Gurpreet Singh

U.S. Department of Energy
Gurpreet is the Program Manager for the Decarbonization of Non-Road, Rail, Marine and Aviation Program. His Program focuses on research and development of advanced combustion and fuel technologies along with emission controls to enable decarbonization of these sectors. His Program supports fundamental and applied research that is conducted in collaboration with the National Laboratories, universities, and industry. He has been with the Department of Energy since 1994. Prior to joining the Department of Energy, Gurpreet worked for 10 years as a senior mechanical engineer in the Engine R&D Branch at the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command. Gurpreet is the representative for the United States on the International Energy Agency's Clean and Efficient Combustion Technology Collaborative Programme. Gurpreet received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Lee has over 19 years of experience in motorsports and the automotive industry. Currently Lee is a Technical Strategy and Integration Director at Cummins, a global leader in power solutions. In this role, Lee leads the development and execution of the strategic roadmap for the integration of new technologies and systems across the product portfolio. Lee collaborates with cross-functional teams, external partners, and customers to identify and solve complex technical problems, deliver innovative solutions, and optimize performance and efficiency. Lee is passionate about advancing the state of the art in power systems, and contributing to Cummins' mission of making people's lives better by powering a more prosperous world.
Arvind Thiruvengadam
Principal Engineer of Advanced Engines Manager

Arvind Thiruvengadam received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Madras University and his Masters and Ph.D. from West Virginia University. Dr. Thiruvengadam has over 10 years of experience in Heavy-Duty Diesel engine emissions measurement with emphasis on real-world characterization of vehicle emissions performance. Dr. Thiruvengadam was a tenured Associate Professor at West Virginia University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department, before joining PACCAR as a Principal Engineer for advanced engines. At Paccar, Dr. Thiruvengadam is working with a team of engineers tasked with developing new ICE technologies for future powertrains that include diesel, hydrogen and other alternative fuels.
