Presentation Title: The Role of the ICE in Decarbonizing Freight Rail

As Vice President of Wabtec's Engine and Power Solutions Technology team, James is responsible for the global technology and investment strategy, new product development, and global engineering organization that develops and maintains products within the Engine, Cooling Systems, Turbocharger and Fuel Cell spaces. He has served in this role for the past 5 years. During his time in the role, Wabtec has launched significant products such as the 7FDL Advantage product line and Wabtec’s new high speed engine for locomotive and power applications.

A native of Pittsburgh, Gamble built his 23-year career developing innovative engine and cooling technology solutions in power generation, marine and locomotive markets within Wabtec and Formerly General Electric Transportation. Some career highlights include performing as Sr. Engineering Manager for Engine Mechanical development during the launch of the Tier 4 locomotive/Marine product lines and acting as an engineering leader during the development of General Electric/Wabtec’s clean sheet 1.5-3.0MW high speed engine.

James graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Currently he serves on the Mechanical Engineering external advisory board of Gannon University. Outside of Wabtec, James and his family are very involved with supporting charitable organizations which are focused on youth development in the Grove City community.

Presentation Title: Preparing for a Reduced-Carbon Future

Mike is the Vice President and General Manager for Systems Products & Services in Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division. In this role, he is responsible for developing integrated power systems and related components and their application into Caterpillar equipment in support of our broad global customer base. Specifically, Mike’s team provides product management for large electric power generator sets, custom / design-to-order packaged products, cooling systems, lubricating systems, air intake & exhaust systems, and the aftermarket and parts support for all large engine products. Mike earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. He joined Caterpillar as an engineer in 1988 and has held staff and leadership positions in power systems product management & engine development, marketing & sales, distribution management, aftermarket product support, strategy, pricing, mergers & acquisitions, emissions regulations, and electrification in roles based in Switzerland, Singapore and throughout North America.

Presentation Title: ICE Technology Evolution in F1 – The Pathway Toward Sustainable Power Units

Carlo Bussi is a mechanical engineer who graduated and received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Modena and Reggio e Emilia.

Since 2003, he has worked in Ferrari's racing department, where he has held several positions, including Engine Simulation Engineer, Head of ERS Design and Development, Head of Power Unit Performance and, since 2017, Head of Power Unit Performance and Control Strategies.
