Dr. Pengfei Dong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Science at the Florida Institute of Technology. His current research interests focus on the multiscale mechanical characterization of biomaterials, optimal design of orthodontic appliances, traumatic eye injuries, and machine learning methods for biomechanics. Dr. Dong has collaborated with multiple research groups and clinicians on different research topics. During the last several years, Dr. Dong has developed computer simulations and machine learning methods for predicting the stent expansion in the heavily calcified coronary artery. The stretch ratio method and load sharing method have been developed for optimal stenting procedures in heavily calcified coronary arteries. Comparative studies of different commercial orthodontic appliances, Carrier Motion 3D, JVBarre, and aligners, have been conducted for the optimal design of orthodontic appliances.
