New Aerospace Innovation in Mechanics and Materials (AIM²) Lab Opens at UH, Houston, Sept 2025

In September 2025, the Aerospace Innovation in Mechanics and Materials (AIM²) Laboratory, a state-of-the-art research facility located in the UH Agrawal Engineering Research Building, was inaugurated. The 1,900 sq-ft lab expands UH’s capacity in aerospace research, fabrication, and hands-on training, directly supporting the NASA MIRO IDEAS² Center’s objectives in deployable structures, soft robotics, and advanced materials. AIM² houses advanced equipment, including a Stratasys Origin Two 3D printer, FormlabsForm 4 and Form 3 printers, a TrotecSpeedy 360 laser cutter, a Universal Robots UR12e robotic arm, a custom direct-ink-writing printer for liquid-crystal elastomers, a vacuum chamber, and dedicated materials characterization stations.

The new AIM² lab will support the research activities of the NASA IDEAS² Center at UH.
