Abstract: Despite the long-held promise that "complexity is free," metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) still captures only a fraction of the traditional CNC market. While the additive manufacturing industry continues to expand—recovering to €11 billion in 2025 and projected to exceed €21 billion by 20301 widespread market adoption remains throttled by rigid qualification protocols and high costs.
This plenary talk explores how recent hardware maturity and treating LPBF like traditional metal CNC can dismantle these historical blockers. By using Dyndrite software to define builds via precise thermodynamic energy signatures rather than locked configurations, the industry can fully automate Operational Qualification (OQ)3. Real-world adoption, including Ursa Major's integration of Dyndrite LPBF Pro for advanced rocket propulsion2, demonstrates how software automation and novel AI-driven coding techniques drastically slash file preparation and qualification overhead, establishing the self-perpetuating cost-down conditions required to exponentially scale the metal LPBF ecosystem.
