National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) is one of the world's top academic institutions featuring high-level experimental facilities, major maritime and ocean technology research centers that support approximately 150 researchers. NMRI mainly focuses on research for:
- Securing safe marine transportation
- Preserving the marine environment
- Ocean development
- Developing fundamental technologies for marine transportation
NMRI facility, located in the western Tokyo city of Mitaka-shi, the Actual Sea Model Basin, 400-m Towing Tank, the Comprehensive Simulation System, the Deep Sea Basin, and other testing facilities.
